Blog Journal #2

Hello again! In middle school, I was taught how to use MS Word in computer class. I then continued to use Word throughout the rest of middle school and high school. I really enjoy Word because of all the different templates that they have for different Word documents. Once I went to college, I started to use Google Docs. I started to use Google Docs more because I was constantly using Word for my assignments and it was taking up space on my computer. Google Docs allows me to save up space on my computer by saving it online leaving space on my computer.

ISTE Standards for Educators is a guide that is used for teachers for kindergarten through twelfth grade, to teach them how to start to use technology in their classroom. The eight different ISTE Standards for Educators are learner, leader, citizen, collaborator, designer, facilitator, analyst, and innovator. I feel that the standard that is most meaningful to me would definitely have to be a learner. Learner is when, "educators continually improve their practice by learning from and with others, and exploring proven and promising practices that leverage technology to boost student learning." ( ISTE). In each classroom setting that I have worked in, I have always felt that I was always constantly learning something from someone.

It says that the label "digital native" is used for the generation of young people who have grown up with the internet as part of their daily childhood. I would not consider today's youth digital natives. I feel that adults now who are in their 20s are the true "digital natives". I also have seen a difference between the ways digital natives and digital immigrants use technology. It seems like second nature for many digital natives when using technology and I feel like digital immigrants struggle more with technology and it is not second nature to them. Even though it may not be second nature to them I do feel that using technology has had a positive impact on my learning experience. I feel that my future students will be taught by teachers where they see technology as second nature to them and these set of teachers have more of a want to use technology while teaching in their classrooms.
